Windows 10 System Apps Review: Get Office

Note: This page is a review which forms part of the post Windows 10 System Apps Review

What’s this app for?

Much like “Get Skype”, this is an app that provides a few buttons which are hyperlinks to Microsoft Pages where you get details on how to get Microsoft Office, OneDrive & OneNote on your PC/Mobile.

Does it do the job it was primarily designed for?

If you’re looking for office there’s undoubtedly more clicks involved than it would be with getting skype. But in Windows 10 you can get the quite useful and decent Excel, Word & PowerPoint apps for free, even on the PC via the Windows Store, of which the link is providing via the various routes in this “Get Office” app.

There’s also a link to OneDrive, which if you’re using a Microsoft Account it’ll take you directly into, and a link to OneNote which takes you to the Store to install/open the app.

For someone who didn’t know about these apps and online services, this app is a decent signpost to finding out about them, all of which are free at a basic level.

What’s the alternative?

If you’ve got a Microsoft Account you’ll know you can already open up most Office documents via outlook.com already. Alternatively, if you’re after similar products, there’s Google’s online offering, or OpenOffice suite which is also free to download/install via the web.

Hit, Miss, or Maybe?

Hit; this app does what it needs to and is very much orientated to the Windows newbie who is venturing into unknown territory either from a Microsoft perspective or dipping their toes into windows 10 for the first time.
